Rio Tinto has increased the production of iron ore in the third quarter. The aluminum production decreased significantly, however.
London (---) - The British / Australian mining group Rio Tinto plc / Ltd. recorded in the third quarter of 2012 increased iron ore production.

According to the company, on Tuesday, the output of iron ore (Rio Tinto share) compared to the same period last year increased by 6 percent to 52.6 million tons, which over the previous quarter, an increase of 8 per cent was recorded. In the first nine months of 2012 the iron ore production rose compared to the same period last year by 5 percent.
The aluminum production fell in the third quarter over the previous year by 11 percent. Meanwhile, in the third quarter up 13 percent and 20 percent more clay bauxite were mined, while coking coal decreased by 13 percent.
The Group reiterated the goal of an iron ore production of about 250 million tonnes (100 per cent basis) in the current fiscal year.
